Belly Breathing Exercise by Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist Anna Belay
This Belly Breathing Exercise (Diaphragmatic) is one of my favourite simple exercises I can perform on a daily basis. This is a great exercise that reduces tension/stress and promotes relaxation
- Lie on your back on a flat surface (or bed) with your knees bent. Use a pillow under your head and knees for support, if it’s more comfortable
- Place one hand on your belly (just below your rib cage) and the other on your upper chest
- Breathe in through your nose, letting the air in towards your belly. The hand on the belly should rise, while the hand on your chest should remain still
- Breathe out through pursed lips, and allow the belly move down to its original position

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain*
