How will I benefit?

Pelvic floor physiotherapy focuses on treatment involving both the internal and external pelvic muscles and joints. These tissues are extremely important in providing support and stability to our pelvic girdles. When the system is not functioning optimally, it can lead to issues such as pelvic pain, leakage, prolapse, sexual dysfunction and more.

The treatments involved in pelvic health service will be dependent upon the results of your initial assessment. Your injury or condition will be evaluated during a physical examination, and one of our highly trained physiotherapists will form a treatment plan that will address your specific needs. This will typically include a combination of manual therapy, a home exercise program (stretching, strengthening), activity/lifestyle modification, and more.

Our physiotherapy clinics are equipped with the resources necessary for treating all forms of pelvic floor dysfunction. In many cases, our treatment methods can help provide relief and recovery for problems that patients have been facing for years. If your pelvic symptoms are limiting you, contact SOS Physiotherapy today to begin your path toward long-lasting relief!

What to expect?

Your pelvic health physiotherapy treatments will be dependent upon the findings at your initial assessment. Your assessment will involve:

MEDICAL HISTORY: You and your therapist will discuss your medical history, history of symptoms, aggravating factors, and how your current symptoms impact your daily life.

EXAMINATION: This will begin by looking at your whole body: posture, breathing, and movement patterns. Next, your physiotherapist will assess the range of motion and strength of areas that work in conjunction with the pelvic floor. With informed consent only, an internal pelvic exam will be completed. The purpose of the internal assessment is to assess the tissues of the pelvic floor including their tone, strength, coordination and endurance. An internal exam is not mandatory, but this information allows your therapist

to best tailor your treatment plan specifically to you.
