Idiot Shoe Tie Stretch

Idiot Shoe Tie Stretch by Jess

This is a great little exercise with a tongue-in-cheek name: the Idiot Shoe-Tie. This is an awesome stretch for the lower back you can do right at your desk. All you need is a chair or stool!

This exercise specifically targets the sacroiliac (SI) joint, helping to create mobility and a stretch in this location.

  1. Stand facing your chair/stool.
  2. Lift one foot up and rest it on the chair/stool in front of you. You are targeting the SI joint on the side of the lifted foot.
  3. Bend towards the foot that is still on the ground, reaching towards the foot within tolerable range, or until you feel a gentle stretch in the lower back on the side of the lifted foot. Hold for 30 seconds.

This stretch should not be painful, but should just be a comfortable pull. To deepen the stretch, bend further to the foot. To ease it, don’t reach as far.
