Idiot Shoe Tie Stretch by Jess
This is a great little exercise with a tongue-in-cheek name: the Idiot Shoe-Tie. This is an awesome stretch for the lower back you can do right at your desk. All you need is a chair or stool!
This exercise specifically targets the sacroiliac (SI) joint, helping to create mobility and a stretch in this location.
- Stand facing your chair/stool.
- Lift one foot up and rest it on the chair/stool in front of you. You are targeting the SI joint on the side of the lifted foot.
- Bend towards the foot that is still on the ground, reaching towards the foot within tolerable range, or until you feel a gentle stretch in the lower back on the side of the lifted foot. Hold for 30 seconds.
This stretch should not be painful, but should just be a comfortable pull. To deepen the stretch, bend further to the foot. To ease it, don’t reach as far.

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain*
