Rachel Goldsworthy
(Chiropractor- Clinical Director)
Dr. Rachel Goldsworthy is a Chiropractor and Clinical Director at our SOS Physiotherapy Northfield clinic in Waterloo.
How I Treat
My favourite part of being a chiropractor is helping patients make sense of their pain and better understand what may be contributing to their symptoms. I believe education is a powerful part of treatment and aim to empower patients with the knowledge and tools to better manage their symptoms, modify their pain experience, and feel more confident in their bodies. I tailor my approach to each individual’s goals and lifestyle, combining hands-on chiropractic care, education, rehabilitation, exercise, and acupuncture when appropriate.
Types of Treatment I Offer:
I use a combination of hands-on chiropractic treatment, manual therapy, exercise and rehabilitation, patient education, and acupuncture when appropriate. I place a strong emphasis on helping patients understand their symptoms and the factors that may be contributing to their pain. I have a particular interest in running rehabilitation and exercise-based treatment for running injuries, helping runners recover while continuing to work toward their goals. I also enjoy helping patients manage headaches, jaw and TMJ pain, and persistent or recurring pain through individualized, evidence-informed care.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy as a chiropractor centres on empowering patients to better understand and manage their pain so they can feel more confident and in control of their bodies. I believe successful care is not always about completely eliminating pain, but about helping patients understand their symptoms, reduce fear around movement, and return to the activities that are meaningful to them. I enjoy working collaboratively with patients to develop realistic, evidence-informed strategies that fit their individual goals, lifestyle, and needs.
What Patients Can Expect From Me:
Patients can expect a supportive and collaborative approach focused on understanding the whole picture behind their symptoms. I take the time to listen, explain what may be contributing to their pain, and develop an individualized treatment plan based on their needs and goals. Whether someone is recovering from a running injury, experiencing headaches or jaw and TMJ pain, or dealing with persistent or recurring pain, my goal is to help them feel more confident with movement and better equipped to manage their condition independently.
Education and Professional Development:
After attending Cameron Heights, I obtained a degree in Kinesiology at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and received my doctor of chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. I have completed the McMaster Medical Acupuncture Course, along with multiple continuing education courses focused on running-related injuries and running rehabilitation. I continue to develop my knowledge in pain science, rehabilitation, running injuries, and evidence-informed approaches to chiropractic care. I am committed to ongoing professional development so that I can continue providing thoughtful, current, and effective care to my patients.
Life at SOS Physiotherapy:
I love being part of a team that values continuous learning and strives to provide the best evidence-based care possible. As Clinic Director, I enjoy fostering a welcoming, positive, and supportive work environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged to grow. I also really enjoy being involved in the Waterloo community, where I was born and raised. One of the highlights of my time at SOS has been creating and leading the SOS On Your Way to 5 KM program, which gives new runners the opportunity to discover running in a supportive and approachable environment.
Personal life:
Outside of the clinic, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my husband and our dog, Millie. I love exploring new places on foot and getting outside year-round, including during the winter months. Being born and raised in Waterloo, I also really value staying connected to the local community.
Hobbies and Activities:
I particularly enjoy trail running, especially with Millie, and have a passion for exploring new places on foot. My husband and I enjoy fastpacking and have taken on adventures such as the Tour du Mont Blanc and the West Highland Way. Running is a big part of my life, and I love seeing the progress that comes from setting a goal and working toward it—something that I also enjoy helping my patients experience through running rehabilitation and individualized chiropractic care.
