Piriformis Stretch by Chad Beacom
Using this piriformis stretch can help relieve tension, reduce discomfort in the lower back, buttocks, and legs, and improve mobility. You can help lengthen the piriformis and strengthen through this position by lifting out of the stretch. It is a nice exercise as it’s very easy to progress and regress. The higher you put the bench the easier it will be. and the flatter you place the bench the more of a stretch you will place on the muscle.
How-To Steps:
- Using an incline bench, face perpendicular to the bench, place the foot on the seat of the bench and lay the shin bone onto the inclined bench seat.
- Reach your back foot backwards to create a straight line between your foot and hip. Reach arms out to the side and lean forward until a deep stretch is felt on the outside of the hip of the lead leg.
- Push out of this position and repeat.

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain*
