Muscle Release for Headache and Neck Pain by Ali Dings
The exercise I am going to do is a self suboccipital muscle release. This exercise is a great way to release the muscles at the base of the skull and can be helpful to reduce headaches and neck pain, especially after a long day at the computer! It’s super easy and well worth the 2 minutes in your day to do.
How-To Steps:
- Use a “Peanut” as pictured or take two tennis balls and tape them together or put them in a sock and tie the end
- Place the balls at the base of your skull while lying on your back
- If you find the balls are sliding you can place a small rolled hand towel between the tennis balls and your upper back to keep the balls from sliding
- Perform a small “yes” nodding motion up and down to massage the muscles at the base of your skull for about 1-2 minutes at a time.

*Never do an exercise that causes you pain*
