Concussion treatment option!

Concussions are mild traumatic brain injuries that can result in a variety of symptoms. These symptoms can include headache, dizziness, loss of balance, nausea, difficulty concentrating, and “feeling in a fog” to name a few.

The visual system is commonly affected with a concussion, resulting in light/movement sensitivity, double/blurred vision, eye strain and difficultly reading or remembering what was read. A possible simple self-strategy to help alleviate some of these symptoms are binasal occlusion glasses (shown below).

The tape can be positioned as shown in the first or second picture based on whichever one provides the most symptom relief. This can also be placed on the inside of your sunglasses as well!

Even though this may provide symptom relief, it is still important to consult a certified physiotherapist, optometrist and physician for a complete medical assessment and treatment prescription. Keep in mind that physiotherapists are trained to help treat concussion symptoms using various forms of treatment such as manual therapy, vestibular ocular reflex exercises, graded exercise prescription and many more!
